Surprise Adventure

We had some of our Flagstaff friends, who are rock climbers, visiting the City of Rocks National Preserve this week. We drove out to it yesterday to try to meet up with them. We were driving around a remote part of the park looking for our friends when our radiator hose cracked, causing the serpentine belt to come off. The car was undriveable, it was 90+ degrees outside and we had all three boys with us! I got my cell phone out knowing there was probably not going to be service, but there were two bars on it! I was able to contact one of our rock climbing friends, but it turned out they had left early and were back in Flagstaff already. Our friend, Terry, had stayed in Idaho to visit with some of his family in Burley (a town about 30 miles away), so I got his number and Gordon was able to contact him. He was a life saver and came back out to rescue us. Gordon and Terry worked on the car for awhile, but they didn't have the tools or hose they needed to fix it. We all piled in Terry's truck and he gave us a ride to Burley where my dad and sister picked us up and drove us home. God was definitely looking out for us because the spot where we broke down was probably the only place in a 20 mile radius that had cell service, and on a whim I had packed our pop-up shade and extra water. We were grateful for the shade and water because we were stranded for four hours and it was very hot outside! Oh, and we also were by some port-a-potties! The boys were so good and were little troopers! There were two little chipmunks running around who were interested in what we were doing. I threw a Teddy Graham on the ground and one of them came over and snatched it up. He kept coming back for more and after about 15 minutes, he was taking them out of my hand! They were good entertainment and helped the time pass faster. We are grateful to God, our friend, Terry, and my dad and sister for helping us out. I cringe to think what could have happened if we hadn't been able to contact anyone!!

Camping Near Lake Cleveland, ID

Gordon and I decided on the spur of the moment to go camping in the mountains to the southeast of us. We camped nearby Lake Cleveland, a beautiful lake that could easily be mistaken for one in Colorado. Our campsite was located at about 9500 feet. We were glad to be there because it was over 100 degrees at home! We had a great time with the exception of the college kids that were camped next to us. They decided to party until 5:30 in the morning! We were tired, but enjoyed the morning and spent the rest of the day at Lake Cleveland. Gordon caught a couple of cutthroat trout. The boys fished too. Preston had cast out while standing on a rock and lost his footing. He made a good splash when he fell in the water! Luckily it was only about 5 inches deep and he didn't get hurt. I told him since he was wet anyway, he might as well go swimming. Both of the boys took their pants and socks off and waded around in the water in their underwear and shirts to keep cool. We had a great time and we are looking forward to camping there again! (Minus the foul-mouthed college kids)

Visiting With Daniell

Daniell and I have been friends since high school. We haven't been able to live near each other in years, but we keep in contact often. Our last in person visit was three years ago, so I was thrilled when she was visiting her grandfather up here in Idaho. We each have three boys. We never thought in high school when we were wearing our size 4 Wrangler jeans, heading off to country music concerts, that we would end up with six boys between the two of us! They have a lot of fun together because they are all close in age. I really wish we lived in the same town so we could get together weekly!

My New Baby

I just got an early birthday present from my parents. It's a Cricut Create!! I am super excited. I've been wanting one for a few years now. For anyone who doesn't scrapbook, it is a computerized cutter that can cut out letters, shapes and just about anything you would need to add to a scrapbook page. It is AWESOME! Thanks Mom and Dad!!!!

My Nephew - Atigun John Dethlefs

On June 25, 2009 my brother, Andy, and my sister-in-law, Mary, welcomed their little boy, Atigun, into the world. He is a precious bundle that weighed 7lbs 1 oz and 21 inches long. I am so excited to be an aunt for the first time! They live in California, so I haven't been able to meet him yet, but I'm really looking forward to it! His cool and unique name is from Atigun Pass in Alaska. Andy and Mary lived in Alaska a few years ago and they really liked that name. As you can see from his pictures, he is a cutie pie!

Fourth of July

We had so much fun for the Fourth this year. We had my family over along with some of our neighbors and their kids. The kids played in the kiddie pool and squirted each other with guns and they also got to set off some daytime fireworks (well they watched while the adults lit!). Dinner was yummy barbeque chicken and grilled corn-on-the-cob with lots of other sides. We made homemade rootbeer and had it with homemade ice cream. It was DELICIOUS! It's also a lot of fun to make rootbeer. We topped all the fun off with the lighting of fireworks when it got dark (about 10 pm here). Fireworks were illegal in Arizona where I grew up, so setting off our own fireworks was a new thing for me last year after we moved here. Boy is it FUN! I'm already looking forward to the celebration next year. I sure am proud to be an American!
